I am Elena Berengolts, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Students (FIS), Altai State Medical University.
On behalf of the University, I would like to send my warmest greetings to all interested in our Faculty!
Today, we have more than 500 undergraduate students, coming from 15 different countries, mainly India & Middle East. We are extremely pleased to have so many accomplished & talented students with us from all over the world.
FIS students come from all walks of life and have stories to tell. They immerse themrselves in a wide range of educational opportunities & nurture rich character as individuals for a fulfilling student life.
Faculty of Foreign Students, Altai State Medical University, opened its doors to the 1st international class of 140 students in 2016. 2 undergraduate bilingual medical courses were offered to the newly admitted students: General medicine & Dentistry.
Since 2016 one more course has been added – Pharmacy; as well as English-medium course of General medicine was introduced in 2023.
Today the Faculty of Foreign Students offers 4 undergraduate MBBS-equivalent courses for international students:
- General Medicine English-medium course – 6 years;
- General Medicine bilingual course – 6 years;
- Dentistry bilingual course – 5 years;
- Pharmacy bilingual course – 5 years.
Our students may have studied until now with the assumption that there is one single answer or solution to a problem. However, we live in an age where scientific technology has rapidly developed and the societal framework has dramatically changed. We are bound to face many questions without existing answers. In such times, no matter how impossible the issues may seem, with highly specialized professional skills and a broad educational background, we are able to critically think about the issues and find their core. Moreover, we need to have the ability to analyze problems, draw conclusions based on evidence, and work together with diverse groups of people. I believe that the true purpose of a university is to afford each and every individual an opportunity to become cultured, learn to think independently and produce creative solutions, build their character, and learn how to put ideas into action.
We - Faculty of Foreign Students - encourage students to take classes with interactive discussions and problem-solving activities. In addition, hands-on learning opportunities such as internships, fieldwork, and volunteer activities let students take a step into the real world. Moreover, we are expanding study spaces and facilities equipped with the latest ICT environment, allowing students to take initiative in their own learning.
As a measure to sustain & develop diversity, we pride ourselves on having multinational & multicultural classrooms. Our international students participate in classrooms & club activities with many opportunities to have discussions with their Russian peers.
Faculty of Foreign Students is dedicated to providing students with an academically & culturally stimulating environment.
However, a university is not simply a place to fill students with knowledge. Rather, learning takes on a life of its own. It is up to each one of the students to take advantage of the wide range of support & a wealth of resources in academics, the arts, and sports available.
