In 2016, a priority project for the export of Russian education was launched in Russia, the goal of which is to increase the attractiveness of Russian educational programs for foreign citizens, improve the conditions for their stay while studying in Russia, as well as increase the level of recognition and status of the Russian education brand in the international educational market.

As part of the project, the Faculty of Foreign Students (FIS) was founded at the Altai State Medical University. The first admission campaign was successful; 233 students were enrolled in two bilingual educational programs: “General Medicine for Foreign Citizens” and “Dentistry for Foreign Citizens.” These were citizens of India, Iraq, Egypt, and Nigeria

All these seven years the faculty has been developing. The third bilingual educational program, “Pharmacy for Foreign Citizens,” was developed and implemented. Every year the number of students increased, the geography expanded.

Currently, more than 550 students from more than 10 countries of the world are students of FIS: India, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Iran, Tunisia, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Palestine, Germany, USA, Afghanistan.

The University offers foreign citizens four major courses:

- 31.05.01 General Medicine for foreign citizens (English-medium);

- 31.05.01 General Medicine for foreign citizens (bilingual training);

- 31.05.03 Dentistry for foreign citizens (bilingual training);

- 33.05.01 Pharmacy for foreign citizens (bilingual training).

It should be noted that students master the coursein two ways:

-          English medium

-          Bilingually: 1-3 years in English, 4-5/6 years in Russian with elements of English

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language has been organized at FIS. The department employs highly qualified specialists in the field of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The course is structured in such a way that students do an intensive course of the Russian language the first two years, the purpose of which is to enable students to master the course better (clinical classes, internship, etc.).
